The project involves the replacement of the former GIL Theatre, part of the “Galileo Galilei” State Technical and Industrial Institute complex in Arezzo. The intervention includes the demolition of the existing building, which no longer meets current functional and performance requirements, and its reconstruction on the same footprint, with the aim of increasing the school’s capacity and improving the quality of the learning environments.

The new building has been designed to integrate with the surrounding structures, maintaining their proportions and realigning the different levels of the school complex. The more rational and flexible internal layout includes classrooms, specialist laboratories, shared spaces and technical rooms arranged along a central corridor, enhancing natural light and ensuring efficient connections between the different areas.

Particular attention has been paid to accessibility, safety and user comfort. The new external staircases, evacuation routes and circulation spaces ensure effective use of the building, while high-efficiency systems, ventilation and air-conditioning solutions, and the use of low-impact materials contribute to creating healthy, efficient and sustainable environments.

The intervention transforms a building that no longer met the school’s needs into a new hub for technical and laboratory-based education: a contemporary, safe and inclusive space designed to support students and teachers in the learning activities of the future.
