The SCM-1 project aims to represent an inter-municipal cycle route, like Line 1, between the municipalities of the hinterland west of Turin, in particular the municipalities of Alpignano, Rivoli and Collegno which shared the candidacy for the regional tender of 2017/18, to which the City of Turin ideally joined for the section under its jurisdiction.
The aim of the project was to create a main route that connected the towns of the lower Val Susa to the centre of Turin in order to connect the main public services, the working and industrial districts. The secondary connection that connects the Grugliasco FFSS station to the Borgata Paradiso district also connects to the main route.
The design team focused on the execution of various works through the application of the Guidelines for the design of cycle paths:
♦ use of suitable tools to signal the presence of a cycle path through the application of rules contained in the Highway Code such as Zone 30, Residential Zone, devices useful for signaling cycle paths, obstacles, one-way streets
♦ the design of cycle paths in their own location in different contexts
♦ the safe physical separation of vehicular and cycle-pedestrian traffic flows with large flowerbeds along the edges of existing roundabouts and demarcations in colored interlocking elements
♦ cycle parking according to the guidelines of the Piedmont Region.
The cycle path that develops across the three Municipalities extends for about 12 km and has been divided into 7 functional macro-zones defined within important “binding lines” such as railway and road infrastructures, entrances to semi-rural areas and parks that clearly define the landscape scenarios along the route.
