PESSINETTO – TURIN: LANDSLIDE ADJUSTMENT OF THE SLOPE

 

The Province of Turin entrusted Sertec Engineering Consulting with the project for the accommodation of the landslide slope with rockfall tunnel in the locality of “Ca’ di Spagna” in the municipality of Pessinetto. The purpose of this intervention was to secure the vehicular road system in the section of the SP1 between kilometers 36+440 and 36+640, through the construction of an artificial rockfall tunnel with a length of 180m with the reconstruction of the section of the adjacent Enel canal and connection to the current platform of the SP1 (Provincial road no. 1).

The project involved the construction of a rockfall barrier on the roadway in order tol ensure safety to the passing vehicular traffic.

For less impact of the work on a key artery in the Lanzo Valley, the construction site was divided into 7 phases:

phase 1: construction of wall and boulders with reinforced concrete foundation and anchor bars to the rock substrate as well as waterproofing of the tunnel wall

phase 2: completion of the Stura-side walls, slab on the reinforced concrete lean-to and slab making up the channel and also reinforced concrete beam supporting the two pillars of the graft gallery

phase 3: construction of a reinforced concrete wall cover and of the boulders in the open sections of the canal, reinforced concrete floor slab with prefabricated beams in the underground section and the curb for the guard-rail on the wall

♦ phase 4: construction of 37 reinforced concrete pillars of the tunnel with lowered beams to support the slab

phase 5: completion of the reinforced concrete wall with reinforced concrete foundation and anchor bars to the rock substrate, semi-circular reinforced concrete wall with lean-to, tunnel stiffening beams, waterproofing of the tunnel wall, backfill in the tunnel wall, and placement of the slope-side tunnel wall tie-rods. Hydraulic works were carried out to drain water coming from the drainage and the road.

♦ phase 6: realization of reinforced concrete works of the gallery slab, of the overhang for the sidewalk, for Stura drainage of stormwater, for the retaining wall of the backfill on the gallery, and finally the galvanized iron parapet for the cantilevered sidewalk was built

phase 7: The latest interventions involved the laying of blinder and wear mat, colored bitumen on the cantilevered sidewalk, the place on the tunnel with formation of the service tracks, the grassing on agricultural land, horizontal and vertical signage, the painting of the wall inside the tunnel, and the lighting system inside the tunnel.
