The project was designed to be a high-level cycling route and an example for the entire Lake Maggiore area.

The cycling route extends for about 6.5 km along which the road section undergoes variations that have led to the identification of different types of solutions, based on which 5 homogeneous sections have been defined. Five macro-zones can be identified based on the context in which they are inserted and depend on the type of road infrastructure, accessibility, users and intensity of vehicular traffic. The project includes the redevelopment of the space with a new interlocking paving.

The technical and functional characteristics of the proposed routes, for the entire development of the route, have been identified among the following types:

♦ cycle path and/or cycle/pedestrian path

♦ cycle route or preferential cycle route or “road 30”

♦ pedestrian area

♦ limited traffic zone

♦ limited speed zone (for 30 kilometers/h or less)

♦ adoption of lower-cost solutions that guarantee the safety and functionality of cycle/pedestrian paths

♦ complete works with vertical and horizontal signage as required by the Highway Code.

The project includes the insertion of a cycle/pedestrian walkway to connect the two banks of the San Bernardino torrent, at the terminal part of the torrent. The location of this structural element required sharing the project with the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape, in order to obtain a structure that can fit perfectly into the environment. The new infrastructure intends to limit its length and, above all, not to change the view from the various panoramic points of the lake, but rather to propose new panoramic points for the benefit of pedestrians and cyclists.
