Sertec Engineering Consulting has drawn up the project for the tourist enhancement interventions of the Kreas Mining Park.
The planned works, aimed at the redevelopment of the mining site through conversion for tourism purposes, include some interventions that affect the external areas, the internal areas and the electrical system of the Mud di Mezzo mine site.
The interventions planned for the external areas are aimed at improving the accessibility and safety conditions of the mining site locations. The works planned for the external spaces are the following:
♦ pedestrian path and a rack and pinion system on a multi-rail
♦ small-section rockfall tunnel traverse to reach the entrance to the mine
♦ emergency exit path from the ventilation window
♦ rockfall embankment to protect the pedestrian path to the mine
The works planned for the internal spaces are the following:
♦ manual scaling of the mine abutments and caps
♦ cleaning of the mine floor from small residual debris, to ensure a route suitable for tourist travel
♦ positioning of double-twist nets in the cap fixed with anchors
♦ creation of a protected section of path for the final section of the museum route, to ensure safer transit towards the view outside the mine
♦ creation of a projecting panoramic view, with a steel structure measuring 5.30 x 8.50 x 3.75 m, corresponding to the southern opening of level 1.
Unlike many mining museums, located in the mine service buildings, the Kreas Mine museum is located directly in the former mining galleries. This environment, in the edutainment philosophy, allows you to “Experience”, that is, to physically experience the sensations of the mine: the darkness, the sense of claustrophobic constriction, the temperature, the humidity, the wind, that is, the strong air currents that pass through the galleries, the silence and the sound. It can be said that walking through a gallery is an immersive and multisensory experience, since each of the visitor’s senses is involved and this transforms it into a unique experience, as it puts to the test how to manage such an unusual environment.
The choice to equip the “Kreas Mining Park” with an exhibition route is a challenging choice, especially due to the size and shape of the galleries. The “experiences” will be the natural setting of the galleries themselves and will be able to take advantage of a context that makes them extremely “realistic”.
