TURIN: REALIZATION 4 CYCLE AXES

The objective of the intervention is to improve the bike accessibility designing the metropolitan connections linking the conurbation of the first hinterland with the city of Turin.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport on the basis of the Ministerial Decree No. 344 of August 12, 2020, allocated economic resources to the Metropolitan City of Turin for the construction of new urban cycleways for the enhancement of the systematic cycling, intended as school/work displacement. A cost-benefit analysis was carried out in order to identify the municipalities in the first hinterland of Turin (these municipalities account for more than 40% of the mobility entering the Metropolitan City) where the implementation of a bike route would have had the best positive impact on the area. The project involved the inclusion of bike routes along the main vehicular axes connecting the municipalities with the City of Turin. This choice arose from the need to create a new bicycle infrastructure that represented a good alternative to the car use. In order to achieve this goal, road axes were identified to offer the cyclist: speed in travel, safety, accessibility and comfort high levels. The planned bicycle lanes were built in accordance with the Piedmont Region guidelines consisting of high quality/functional standards, and the cyclist safety was placed at the center of design choices.
