The building renovation of the former «Maestre Pie» complex for the establishment of the IPSSAR Marco Polo coordinated school and the maritime-hotel specialization school, located in the Municipality of Genoa. The complex consists of the park on Via Gerolamo Speroni and the building that surmounts it. 

The building was in a completely degraded state as it had been disused for around 15 years. 

The complex was built on several occasions and is made up of a main masonry block with 4 floors above ground next to a masonry block with 3 floors above ground.

The planned intervention is configured as a building renovation and includes, in summary, the following interventions:

♦ restoration, seismic adaptation and energy efficiency of the existing building

♦ construction of new underground and basement buildings serving the school building

♦ construction of new parking spaces and a vehicle access ramp

♦ environmental redevelopment of outdoor spaces.

The renovation intervention involved a redevelopment through the adoption of all the systems necessary to enhance the existing facades while maintaining the image of a historic building.

The new building was conceived according to specialized typological schemes, specific to the assigned function, which favor coherence with the consolidated image of the area through an analysis process that identifies its characteristics, to be developed also through the use of architectural elements contemporary. 

The most important intervention is given by the creation of a projecting body located in the rear part of the main façade which houses the access staircase to the floors and the lift, in addition to the technical joint for the separation of the brick and concrete buildings. reinforced concrete.
