The Municipality of Desio has entrusted Sertec Engineering Consulting with the project for the redevelopment of the urban area “former revenue agency (formerly former hospital)”.

The project envisaged a coordinated redevelopment of the entire former hospital complex that could fully meet the objectives of the call for state funding. The project, analyzing the effects of the urban regeneration of the entire area and addressing the problem in its entirety, is configured as a building renovation project with refunctionalisation, plant, energy and structural adaptation of the main building of the «former hospital» and the chapel annex (“Carlo Levi” room), as well as the surrounding open spaces. The municipal library, the historical archive, spaces for cultural and third sector associations, meeting rooms and restaurant areas are established.

The regeneration strategy attributes the role of a “multidimensional hub” to the area, i.e. the fulcrum of the local community where differentiated activities and services for citizens can be progressively integrated: this area is the subject of internal regeneration, aimed at optimizing the local dimension as a priority.

The reconversion of the urban regeneration area of the “former hospital” makes it possible to systematize the different design and planning directions of the Institution in various sectors such as traffic and parking, with particular attention to sustainable mobility, the reduction of architectural barriers, as well as the recovery of the disused tram line, whose site is adjacent to the sub-sector of the “former hospital” and whose redevelopment is envisaged within the executive project for the construction of the light rail system Milan-Seregno imminent construction.
