CAPACCIO PAESTUM – SALERNO: INTER-MUNICIPAL BIKE PATH OF THE TEMPLES
The inter-municipal bike network connects the coastal municipalities from Salerno to Agropoli and makes it possible to reach the historical-archaeological sites of Hera Argiva, the ancient city of Paestum included as a Unesco World heritage site, the Aragonese castle of Agropoli and a plurality of sites of high naturalistic value such as the SIC “Fascia pinetata a Destra e Sinistra del fiume Sele” (“Pine forest strip on the right and left side of Sele river) the Regional Reserve Foce Sele Tanagro, the Oasi Dunale Torre di Mare managed by Legambiente, and the majestic Sele River.
The inter-municipal bicycle path project fits perfectly within the European and regional strategies of the Campania region and in particular in the feasibility study for the Campania region carried out within the PIC INTERREG IIB ARCHIMED project CY.RO.N.MED. The proposal that is presented is perfectly consistent with the “Ciclopista del Sole” and EuroVelo 7 “Sun Bike Route” which, identified in the Cy.ro.n.med project of the Campania Region, is included in the T4 – Route from the city of Salerno to the city of Sapri of a total length of 156.600 km.
The characteristics of the bike infrastructure are related to the different conditions on the route. Basically, a bike network of 2.50 m width – bidirectional in bitumen/ draining asphalt pavement will be constructed. The types are as follows:
♦ maintenance and adaptation of bi-directional lanes only on one side of the road in the case of neighborhood or inter-neighborhood road types, they will be made at the same level of the roadway, separated from the roadway flow by curb or by horizontal and vertical road signs
♦ maintenance and upgrading of bi-directional tracks only on one side of the road in the case of neighborhood or inter-neighborhood road type, they will be made raised to the sidewalk level in their own roadway.
♦ layout of newly defined single-sided bi-directional lanes only on one side of the road in the case of suburban road types will be buil to the level of the sidewalk in their own lanes.
♦ autonomous bike paths in the case of parks and green routes will be built two-way, in their own paths, detached from the road body.
The main purpose of the project is to build a unified path by connecting the bicycle paths of the different municipalities that are at present concluded.
