The intermunicipal cycle path network, as a whole, connects the coastal municipalities from Salerno to Agropoli and allows you to reach the historical-archaeological sites of Hera Argiva, the ancient city of Paestum included in the UNESCO heritage, the Aragonese castle of Agropoli and a plurality of sites of high naturalistic value such as the SIC «Pine forest strip on the right and left of the Sele river», the Sele Tanagro mouth Regional Reserve, the Torre di Mare Dune Oasis managed by Legambiente and the majestic Sele river.
The intermunicipal cycle path project fits perfectly within the European and regional strategies of Campania and in particular in the feasibility study for the Campania region carried out within the PIC INTERREG IIB ARCHIMED project CY.RO.N.MED project. The proposal presented is perfectly consistent with the «Ciclopista del Sole» and EuroVelo 7 «Sun Route» which, identified in the Cy.ro.n.med project of the Campania Region, is included in the T4 route – Route from the city of Salerno to the city of Sapri with a total length of 156,600 km.
The characteristics of the cycling infrastructure are linked to the different conditions that occur along the route. Essentially, a 2.50 m wide cycling network will be created – bidirectional in draining bitumen/asphalt pavement. The types are as follows:
♦ maintenance and adaptation of two-way lanes on one side of the road only in the case of neighborhood or inter-neighborhood roads, they will be built at the same level as the carriageway, separated from the road flow by a kerb or horizontal and vertical signs
♦ maintenance and adaptation of two-way lanes on one side of the road only in the case of neighborhood or inter-zone roads, they will be built raised to sidewalk level in their own location.
♦ newly defined two-way lane layout on one side of the road only in the case of extra-urban road types will be built in their own location.
♦ independent cycle paths in the case of parks and green paths will be built in two-way traffic, in their own location, detached from the road body.
The main purpose of the project is to build a single route by connecting the cycle paths present in the different municipalities that are currently completed in themselves.
